Below is the sample text that you can use to create a fundraiser on our behalf, e.g. on GoFundMe.

Hi there. This is John. I have created this campaign on behalf Anthony, a rural farmer in Uganda who is founder of the Uganda Community Farm (UCF).

Anthony has spent the last 7 years trying to raise support for an integrated agro-processing plant that aims to move the ultra poor in his region of Busoga (Uganda’s poorest region) from poverty, by creating reliable market linkages for rural poor smallholder farmers — with no success.

The intended plant, which you can learn about here, and also here, will have 4 different components: a cereal/grain cleaning facility; a cassava starch/tapioca facility; a system for making High Quality Cassava Flour, and a fruit facility.

If installed in its entirety, the plant will help the rural poor in the Busoga region diversify their incomes, and thus place them on a self-sustainable path from poverty, by creating new market linkages for at least 7 different crops: sorghum, cassava, maize, mangoes, pineapples, passion fruits, oranges, among others.

Per their intended ownership structure, this plant shall be 80% owned by the rural poor farmers who will be growing the crops that this plant will be working on, with the other 20% owned by the UCF as a way of sustaining their underlying work of training and supporting more rural poor farmers.

I am creating this fundraiser to help Anthony raise part of the needed support for this plant, and the preliminary support that the UCF will need to provide their target farmers with initial inputs (seed etc), and the needed agronomic training.

In Anthony’s own words: “there are lots of very impoverished farmers here who have nothing, but who are very ready to use their own hands to move themselves from chronic poverty — if only they had access to reliable markets for their produce. If humanity only helped us develop even only part of our intended plant, you will be proud of the work that we will do on the grip of poverty in our region.”
